Paperless Office

While I do live in California, I’m not some kind of tree hugging hippy freak or anything. I do however care about our environment. I would like to leave as small a footprint as I can on this planet. In fact I would like to see us all leave as small a footprint as possible. So I am proactive about doing things like recycling and trying not to use natural resources that I don’t have to.

But since it is my job to sell San Diego real estate, you can imagine that I go through reams and reams of paper when San Diego real estate is booming. After all, have you seen just how many pages a standard real estate contract is? Then let’s start adding all of the needed addendums like the one for properties located within a home owners association or the extra ones you have to use for short sales. On top of that you have all of the loan paperwork, and so on and so forth.

I am proud to say that our office has taken a stand in this respect. We have gone to what they are calling a paperless office. Everything is done as PDF files now which can even be signed using electronic signatures. If somebody wants a physical copy of the paperwork, they have the option of printing it. But as for me, I am saving tons of money on paper and as an extra bonus on ink jet cartridges as well!

Crime Statistics for Today

security system SeattleStatistically there is more crime today then there has been in years past.  Not only have assaults gone up in certain areas, but so has home invasions.  Bigger cities like Denver Colorado and Seattle Washington are big cities that have seen an increase in crime of home invasions.  Even a mid sized city like Tucson Arizona has had some increase in their crime statistics.  I know that in these cities, that a lot of people recommend a security system.  Overall it is something that should be looked at.  No matter how safe your part of town is there is always a chance that someone will look at your house or even a business as a good place to break into.

If you take a look at the dollars, the difference between a security system in Denver and a security system in Seattle, is really not much of a difference.  The security system in Tucson also has a bigger impact on your safety than what you would pay out.  Security systems tend to turn away those that might try to break in from your house.  Because there are often security system signs out in front of your house, the burglars now that your residence is protected.

Are There Any Green Acres Left?

As I was once again sitting in traffic on my way to work, looking around and not seeing one speck of land that wasn’t concrete, I began to wonder:  are there any farms left around here?

For years, I have dreamed of owning farmland.  I don’t want to run a professional farm, but I would love to have about 20 acres to farm for myself and my kids.  We get to raise healthy vegetables, and it’ll teach my kids about how to plant, care for, and grow produce.  But I am a west of the Mississippi type of guy, and don’t want to move to the heartland to find this little piece of heaven on earth.  Anything in the western US that’s worth pursuing for farmland, or is it all gone?

Now I have the theme song to the TV stuck in my head, and I think the only way to get it out is to find my own Green Acres….

Hard To Research This School Report

I have been on line all day trying to figure out which state is the best state to buy land in. I have Googled everything from “land for sale” to “discount land” and it is always the same kind of results that come back. Getting cold hard facts is a little tougher than I thought it might be when I started this adventure.

You see, the results I’m getting just depend on who is selling what, and where it is. So if I go to a website that specializes in North Carolina land, take a wild guess where they say the best place to buy land is? I’ll give you a hint here: The North Carolina land specialist is not going to tell me that Maine is the best state to look at land! Of course they are going to say that North Carolina is the place to buy land!

So I tried turning to Consumer Reports magazine and their website. Well if I want to know about Toyota’s Land Cruiser, I’ll know to look there. But as far as land, as in dirt, you won’t find that resource to be any help at all. Fortunately all of this research was just for a school report and it wasn’t like I was actually looking to buy any land! And I think the report I am going to turn in will get a good grade because that is just the spin that I put on it.

The Big Axe Was Swinging

I couple of weeks ago word started going around my work that we might be having layoffs soon. Well I guess that’s not too hard to believe since it is really going around. In fact, from what I understand, the unemployment rate is higher than it has been for decades.

Then this week the big axe really started to swing around our plant. I helplessly stood by while a bunch of my coworkers got their heads lopped off by this axe, and was very happy that mine was missed. But alas, I could only avoid the chopping block for so long. I got downsized. And nobody in my field is hiring.

So I am being proactive about it. Instead of going under like so many other people, I listed my house for sale with a local realtor. I got in touch with my brother who sells Carlsbad CA commercial real estate who says that the Carlsbad real estate market is still doing well. He is going to take me under his wing, train me and even let me stay in one of his townhomes in Carlsbad until I get back onto my feet. After all, I have to do something instead of just sitting around feeling sorry for myself.
