Small House Plans for Seniors

Senior citizens often find themselves in an awkward position when it comes to their homes. Ideally, they would like to remain in the home until they pass away. However, the cost of upkeep for a large home combined with the difficulty of getting around in a bigger home can make this ideal difficult to realize.
One solution that many seniors have found to this problem is to start looking at small house plans. There are three basic plans that a senior may implement in this situation:
- Sell the big house and get a smaller one. In order to make this option more appealing, the senior will sometimes choose a custom home with help from a place like Archway. This helps to diminish the feeling that the senior is losing his independence and sense of self.
- Have someone move into the home. Some people make garage plans that convert the garage into living quarters. These may go to a tenant to help pay the bills or to a caretaker who assists in the home.
- Move to a small home on the property of adult children. Instead of the senior taking a tenant, the senior in this plan becomes the tenant.
Life is about change. As we move from one stage of life to the next, we have to review our options and find the one that is best for us at the time.
